Hypoxia: not merely a regulator of angiogenesis?

چکیده

Introduction Maintaining oxygen homeostasis is of vital importance for the survival and development of mammalian cells. Hypoxia (below-normal levels of oxygen in air, blood and tissue) can potentially lead to cellular dysfunction and ultimately cell death and is a feature of many pathological conditions. Understanding how reduced oxygen levels may contribute to or even promote disease is a significant facet of developing new therapeutic options. A recent study by Cramer et al. gives a fresh insight into these mechanisms and raises questions over whether hypoxia is more than just a regulator of angiogenesis [1].

فاکتور القا شونده به‌وسیله هیپوکسی: نقش آن در آنژیوژنز و سرطان

Angiogenesis, as the process of new vessel formation from pre-existing vessels is dependent on a delicate equilibrium between endogenous angiogenic and antiangiogenic factors. However, under pathological conditions, this tight regulation becomes lost which can result in the formation of the different diseases such as cancer. Angiogenesis is a complex process that includes many gene products tha...

ارتفاع شبیه‌سازی شده بیشتر از تمرین هوازی، مسیر سازشی مرتبط با PGC-1α را بطرف آنژیوژنز در بافت قلبی موش‌های نر نژاد ویستار پیش می‌برد

Background & Aims: Hypoxia and exercise training increase the capillary density of the muscle and the heart and is one of the important reasons for the development of aerobic exercise and the prevention and treatment of many diseases. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of simulated heights and aerobic training on PGC-1α angiogenesis in the heart tissue. Materials & Methods: T...

Physiological role of adenosine and its receptors in tissue hypoxia-induced

It is well known that the metabolic factors play an important role in the regulation of angiogenesis. Increased metabolic activity leads to decreased oxygen levels and causes tissue hypoxia. Hypoxia starts different signals to stimulate angiogenesis and promotes oxygen delivery to tissues. It has been suggested that released adenosine from hypoxic tissues plays a vital role in angiogenesis. ...

p73: a Positive or Negative Regulator of Angiogenesis, or Both?

The role of p73, the homologue of the tumor suppressor p53, in regulating angiogenesis has recently been extensively investigated, resulting in the publication of five articles. Of these, two studies suggested a suppressive role, while the others implied a stimulatory role for the p73 isoforms in regulating angiogenesis. A negative role for TAp73, the full-length form that is often associated w...

Vasohibin as an endothelium-derived negative feedback regulator of angiogenesis.

Negative feedback is a crucial physiological regulatory mechanism, but no such regulator of angiogenesis has been established. Here we report a novel angiogenesis inhibitor that is induced in endothelial cells (ECs) by angiogenic factors and inhibits angiogenesis in an autocrine manner. We have performed cDNA microarray analysis to survey VEGF-inducible genes in human ECs. We characterized one ...
